1. Explore the Old Town of Pollensa

Take a stroll through the winding cobblestone streets of the old town and soak in the charming atmosphere. Make your way to the grand Plaça Mayor (main square), and you’ll discover an abundance of quaint cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques lined along the streets. When night falls, the square comes alive and you’ll see lots of young children playing while parents are enjoying a sundowner. On Sundays, you’ll also find a bustling outdoor market with delicious food stalls where you can sample local cuisine.

2. Climb the Famous 365 Calvari Steps

Just off the square are the famed Calvari steps; climbing to the top is a challenge but certainly worthwhile. You will be rewarded with spectacular views of Pollensa, and you’ll get to witness the Church of Our Lady of the Angels – an impressive 14th-century church which is considered a cultural landmark of Mallorca. There is also a charming little cafe at the top of the steps that serves much-needed refreshments like ice cream for you and the kids.

3. Take in the Views from Puig de Maria

Just a short drive away from the town of Pollensa lies an ancient monastery perched atop Puig de Maria mountain. Whilst the 30-45 minute hike up the steep slopes is no mean feat, you’ll be richly rewarded when you reach the summit. At 330 feet high, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramas of the Tramuntana Mountains and Pollensa Bay. If you need a little pick-me-up after the climb, a café provides tables and refreshments where you can sit and relax as you take in the scenic views. However, if you prefer making something special for the family (like their favourite sandwich), you can also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the tables provided.

4. Watch the Sunset at Port de Pollensa

Port de Pollensa has a long, fantastic stretch of sandy beach with small playgrounds at either end (perfect for the kids), beach bars (perfect for the parents), restaurants, and cafés. On the shore, you’ll find plenty of sun loungers and parasols available for hire, even during peak season. When you reach the north end of the beach, you’ll find the marina with luxury yachts and sailboats bobbing in the sea. There are a number of restaurants and convenience stores along the seafront, many of which offer takeaway services should you wish to remain on the beach and watch over the kids swimming or enjoy the lovely sunset view.

5. Stroll Along the Pine Walk

Take a leisurely stroll under the pine trees lining the promenade at Port de Pollenca. Wander past beautifully preserved buildings from times gone by. Be sure to pause every now and then to take in the splendid views across the bay. Many locals and tourists love to take evening strolls or morning runs in this area. There are a few playgrounds along the way for your kids to play in, too.

6. Spend a Day at Cala San Vicente Beach

If there’s one must-do in Pollensa, it’s visiting the soft white sands and turquoise waters of Cala San Vicente beach. Cala San Vicente actually consists of four separate coves, so there’s a spot for everyone. Adventure seekers will love jumping off the rocks into the sea at Cala Barques. Cala Clara and Cala Carbo offer a bit more seclusion for those seeking peace and quiet. However, the best one to go to with your family is Cala Molins, a 50m stretch of pristine sand with magnificent views of Cap de Formentor. You’ll find a beach bar that serves refreshments, along with sun loungers and parasols for rent. The tranquil waters are also a popular spot for kayaking excursions if you want to do something adventurous with the family.

7. Take a Day Trip to Formentor

Take a scenic road trip with the family and drive all the way to Formentor Beach. You can stop along the way at Mirador d’es Colomer for incredible vistas of Cap de Formentor and the surrounding ocean. If you’re up for a longer ride down a winding road, you can visit the Formentor Lighthouse, which has equally stunning views. When you get to Formentor Beach, the beach itself is truly beautiful, fringed by pine trees that provide shade upon the narrow sandy beach and shallow waters. This makes it perfect for children and those seeking shelter from the strong sun. There are a few restaurants in the area if ever you’re feeling peckish. If travelling by car is not an option, you can reach Formentor Beach by boat from Puerto Pollensa as well.

8. Spot Some Dolphins on a Boat Trip

There are some excellent boat tours available around Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia Bay. In fact, Alcudia – located only 20 minutes from Puerto Pollensa – offers additional options, such as dolphin spotting excursions. That being said, Puerto Pollensa itself has great choices (if you’re willing to spend 2-4 hours on a boat), where you can visit hidden coves and secret swimming spots. Another highly recommended three-hour cruise departs from nearby Can Picafort, about a 30-minute drive from Puerto Pollensa, boasting a 99% success rate for dolphin sightings.

9. Visit Alcudia Old Town and its Roman Ruins

Take a short 20-minute drive to the historic town of Alcudia for a fun family day out. Similar to Puerto Pollensa, historic Alcudia Old Town also has its own lovely bay area. The charming old town with cobbled streets and Roman ruins dating back centuries is enclosed by well-preserved 14th-century walls. For truly memorable views of the city and the surrounding mountains, climb to the top of the thick town walls and stroll around the area. You’ll definitely feel like you’re in Game of Thrones.

10. Visit the Roman Bridge

No trip to Pollensa is complete without visiting the Roman Bridge. This scenic area in the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains is only 700 metres away from the Pollensa town centre. How the Roman Bridge was built still remains a mystery today, but nonetheless, it serves as a historic landmark that provides the perfect photo opportunity for your Mallorcan family holiday. Spanning the Sant Jordi river, the bridge’s arch design and stone construction have stood the test of time and serve as a great reminder of our ancestors who paved the world before us.
